Do you sometimes feel in a way that you can't explain logically, but that, deep down, makes a lot of sense to you?
In this On Purpose episode, Jay Shetty interviewed psychic medium and bestselling author, Laura Lynne Jackson. She discussed her newest book, Guided: Connecting with Light and Intuition, which addresses methods for navigating grief, embracing life's uncertainties, and discovering deeper meaning in daily existence. She shared how connecting with something greater than oneself can lead to a more illuminated life filled with clarity and purpose.
The Natural Path of Intuition
Laura Lynne Jackson discussed with Jay Shetty her evolution from when she first wrote Signs until she published her most recent book, Guided. She explained that the books have followed her own guided journey.
Her first published book, The Light Between Us, focused on the truth of our profound connection to one another. Then, Signs shifted the focus outward, encouraging readers to try connecting for themselves, creating a language with their team of light, and asking for specific signs. Lastly, Guided is what happens when people finally trust those signs and follow the path they reveal. She told Jay Shetty that trust is essential for us to let ourselves be led on a journey by our team of light.
Defining Your Collaborative Team of Light
Laura Lynne Jaqckson introduced Jay Shetty to the term "team of light." In her experience of decades connecting with the other side, each and every one of us has such a team of light consisting of 3 components:
- God energy – it's the inherent force of love that guides us toward our highest path, and it manifests through emotions such as love, forgiveness, and gratitude.
- Spirit guides (sometimes referred to as guardian angels) – according to Jackson, most people have between one and three guides, advanced angelic beings who serve as mentors.
- Loved ones who have passed, including ancestors and pets – they are actively present and help us daily.
Laura Lynne Jackson noted that our team of light works together to propel us forward on our path. She explained that you simply need to open your heart and mind, to invite, hear, and honor their guidance.
Jay Shetty shared a similar experience when he felt guided by his mentor's friend, whom he never met, but heard a lot about. He found confirmation that he was being supported from the other side when signs began to become clear and pointed to this person.
The Struggle with the Skeptical Brain
In today's modern world, the logical brain is trained to take over. Jay Shetty wanted to know how we can overcome the rational brain that dismisses these intuitive experiences as mere coincidences, a placebo, or a crutch. Jackson explained that we are all born highly intuitive. Then, school rewires our brains and trains them to rely on logic, critical thinking, analytical thoughts, and language, all based in the frontal lobe. This is when humans learn that everything that we can't see or touch is, therefore, inexistent.
Yet she asserts that unseen energy and connection are the truth of our existence. It's challenging to begin to trust something that you cannot explain logically, yet it doesn't mean it's not there. She gave the example of someone asking to see a pink elephant (an uncommon sight) as a sign from their team of light. Yet when they saw it, they still labelled it as a coincidence, and started asking for more signs, only to keep dismissing them, since they don't logically make sense.
Jackson told Jay Shetty that, in her view, the brain sometimes keeps us from remembering that the other side is our true home and from recognizing our interconnectedness. Yet the solution is to keep testing and exploring until you can uncover the truth; it's then that true magic happens.
Learning to Trust
Jay Shetty admitted to Laura Lynne Jackson that he, too, used to test his intuition before trusting it. However, he noticed a clear difference between the decisions made with or without trust, so this convinced him to have confidence that his intuition was guiding him in the right direction. He claims to be happier and more satisfied whenever he trusts his inner knowing.
But it's not always so easy to discern between ideas coming from your logical brain vs. intuition. Jackson explained that intuitions are often counterintuitive to logical expectations. When you feel lost or alone, it's easy to believe you're taking a wrong turn rather than trusting that it guides you on your higher path.
Sometimes, dark experiences need to happen to teach us lessons and act as catalysts for future growth that we can't yet see. She told Jay Shetty that you need to set an intention to be guided in those moments and surrender. You will then acknowledge the presence of your team of light and that you are loved and guided, and never truly alone.
While you can ask for specific signs to reassure you that you are in touch with your guides, Jackson noted that signs are constantly around us; the universe continuously extends invitations, but we often miss them because we are stuck in analytical and materialistic thinking. To become more aware of them, you can set an intention, asking your guides to help you see what you may otherwise overlook.
Intuition vs. the Monkey Mind
Laura Lynne Jackson and Jay Shetty discussed the distinction between intuition and the so-called monkey mind, which is our anxious, chattering thoughts. She explained that the monkey mind creates negative narratives, often fueled by anxiety and fear.
On the other hand, intuition is a feeling of deep knowing, and messages from the other side show up effortlessly. Jackson refers to this type of knowledge as "download" or claircognizance. This usually arrives without any negative emotion, and feelings start appearing after the thought, not the other way around, as is the case for the monkey mind.
She and Jay Shetty identified three simple ways to discern between the two voices:
- Loud vs. Quiet: The mind is loud and shouts instructions, while intuition is quiet, still, and peaceful.
- Directive vs. Open: The mind is directive, stating "this is the only thing," while intuition is open, suggesting a path to follow without being didactic, preserving choice and freedom.
- Fear vs. Love: The mind is fear-based, warning of negative outcomes, while intuition motivates through love, peace, happiness, and joy.
Reconnecting With Yourself
Your connection with yourself is essential when opening up to higher beings, Jackson told Jay Shetty. She recommends breathwork exercises to reconnect with your spiritual self. She added that, since the soul attaches to the physical body with the first breath and leaves with the last, focusing on breath helps achieve a state of reconnection.
If you have the possibility, you can create a dedicated space for this connection, like a meditation room or a sacred corner in your home. Yet many people feel this connection completely accidentally during the day, such as while taking a shower, while driving, or performing repetitive tasks, or during sleep.
Another way to reconnect with yourself is to practice walking meditation: go for a walk in nature without earbuds. The silence will allow you to notice more things around you and give you a glimpse of the God energy; then, information will come to you beyond the normal senses.
The Four Psychic Claires
Everyone receives information through different senses, Jackson explained. She shared with Jay Shetty the four claires, which are the psychic toolbox we all possess:
- Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing): This is psychic vision, often called the third eye. It is active when we vividly see things in dreams, but it is available during waking hours as well. This might manifest as seeing people in colors or getting glimpses through your inner mind's eye.
- Clairaudience (Clear Hearing): This occurs when we hear a thought that comes to us, rather than from us.
- Claircognizance (Clear Knowing): This is a sudden download of information where you just know something with absolute certainty, lacking any logical explanation.
- Clairsentience (Clear Feeling): This is the ability to feel the unseen energy around us; it goes beyond a 3D impression of a person to an energetic one, allowing empaths to experience others' emotions. Clairsentience guides us, whether through a neutral feeling, a sense of allergic reaction, or a magnetic pull toward a person, indicating a shared journey.
We Are Co-Creators
Laura Lynee Jackson told Jay Shetty that, when asking the universe for a sign, we need to focus on the current moment. She believes that our view is often too limited and that the universe often dreams bigger than we can. Therefore, instead of asking whether someone is the right partner for us, we need to focus on whether they support our highest experience in this moment. We never know how life unfolds, but we must trust that the guides have our back.
Sometimes, no sign can also be a sign. It may teach you patience and trust that things are following their designed path. In a world where we feel like we need to have everything under control, it's vital to learn when to let go and surrender. Fear of missing out or anxiety are products of our rational mind; if you can take the time to look inward and listen to your intuition, you'll find that those thoughts bring more peace.
Laura Lynne Jackson told Jay Shetty that living a guided life is a co-creation; it means showing up as our best selves, honoring our unique gifts, and practicing kindness. Our thoughts are the light energy that brightens or darkens the world, and by following our intuition, we honor our connections with others. Every single person has the power to be guided and positively impact others' lives. Trusting this light reveals that the magic has already been happening in our whole lives.
